LG Electronics is redefining television innovation with a strong focus on environmental responsibility across every stage of the product journey. From material sourcing to daily operation and responsible disposal, the company demonstrates how premium entertainment can align with sustainability goals.

LG prioritizes sustainable materials in upstream production. Its OLED panels eliminate backlights, slashing plastic use by up to 90% compared to traditional LCD models. For 2026 models, LG OLED TVs are set to cut plastic consumption by about 15,000 tons and lower CO2 emissions by around 80,000 tons. This reflects targeted design choices that reduce resource intensity right from the start.

LG ships its TVs in 100% recyclable cardboard boxes and packages accessories, like the remote control, in bio-based material bags. They integrated recycled cushioning materials made from 50% waste polystyrene.  They also downsized packaging dimensions. Because they don't use heavy backlights and incorporate ultra-lightweight composite fibers into the TV chassis, some models are up to 30% to 39% lighter than legacy models. Lighter, smaller boxes mean more TVs fit on a single shipping container or truck, dramatically cutting down on scope 3 transportation emissions.

In the use stage, energy efficiency takes center stage. Select 2026 LG OLED evo models, including the 83-inch G6 and C6 series, earned an EU Energy Label D rating for the first time. These advancements deliver stunning picture quality while curbing electricity demand and associated GHG impacts for consumers worldwide.

At end of life, LG excels in circularity. The company has recycled approximately 20,000 tons of end-of-life plastic from TVs over the past three years and operates robust global take-back programs. The LG Electronics Recycling Program and Executive Recycling / ERI have a system that consumers can use to look up local drop-off centers via a dedicated portal to drop off TVs and other electronics at no cost. If you live in a municipality of 10,000 or more people that lacks a physical electronics recycling center, LG provides a free direct pickup service for covered equipment.

By intertwining material innovation, smarter logistics, operational efficiency, and strict electronic recycling partnerships, LG sets a benchmark for full-lifecycle sustainability in home entertainment.
